Ouachita Trail - Section 4 Flip Flop (2 of 2) Forest Service Road #48-Coachlight Road (off Highway 71) to Big Brushy Campground

It took a few months to get back to finish Section 4 of the OT. Last April, Rhonda and I were unable to finish it due to a weather change. She didn't get to come back to finish it with me due an injury. The above vista view was close to the end of the hike and we stopped to enjoy it. This spot will be on my hodgepodge hiking list for the OT. My hodgepodge list will include all my favorite spots. There are several spots that would be a short hike in, hang my hammock for a while, and hike back out. Next Fall, I will be revisiting my favorite parts. The drive to the OT offered this spectacular sunrise Lori from Bluebell Cafe shuttled us from Big Brushy to FS 48 OT trailhead. When we started our hike it was 22 degrees and this temperature had the frost flowers (photo above) in full bloom. The sun warmed us up a little. When we stopped for very long it didn't take long to feel the chill. We just kept moving. Scotty noticed this

OUACHITA TRAIL - FS ROAD 152/LAKE SYLVIA TO PINNACLE MOUNTAIN STATE PARK - MUD HIKE

My husband, Scotty, was our support on this hiking weekend. We stayed at Lake Sylvia cabins again and were able to stay the entire weekend. The only dining option we had was Hidalgo's Mexican Restaurant in Perryville. There is also a Harp's Grocery Store in Perryville. Christmas Fern - Arkansas Native Plant We had to change our dates for this hike due to heavy rains the previous week. The flora and fauna loved all the rain, but we had to hike through a lot of mud during the weekend. Garter Snake snakes are not poisonous. In fact, they can be a natural form of pest control, as they feed on small rodents such as mice and moles . If you're having a rodent problem, they can be of some help for you! A tree stuck it tongue out at me and I was mooned by a rock. The trees had a beautiful background. I am holding Pinnacle Mountain and it is deceiving how out of reach it is at this point. I have hiked to it twice and not sure I will do it again. We'll see. OKLAHOMA!!

OUACHITA TRAIL - 40 MILES IN 4 DAYS - Iron Fork Creek to Hwy 298 and Hwy 7 to FS 152 & Access to Lake Sylvia

Lately, hiking the OT is becoming a once-a-month enjoyable ordeal. We had to grab the opportunities offered by Mother Nature to get in any many hikes as possible. February weather was kind to us. It can be a gamble on the weather this time of year. My OT hiking window is from October to March. I absolutely love the fall season and winter season for hiking the OT. The colors are breathtaking in the fall and the scariest thing I have encountered in the fall is hairy rope on trees. Winter hikes can be dreary due to lack of color, but there are some interesting things to find in the forest. I have many photos of fungus, lichen and beautiful frost flowers. I enjoy shorter hikes during the spring when all the flowers begin to bloom, but don't like dealing with the bugs, ticks and snacks. This hiking weekend started with a blue sky and green trees. We were thankful the Iron Fork Creek was only raging under the concrete walkup. Whew! It would have been a long drive back there t
