Ouachita Trail - Talimena State Park to Winding Stair

It has seemed like forever since I got to  return and again step foot on this section of the Ouachita Trail.  Rhonda, my niece Lacey and I slackpacked this section in early 2021.  Back in 2021, this section kicked my butt.  I had a melt down at the Holsom Valley shelter and shortly after my meltdown  we discovered there had been a trail spur blazed leading to the Talimena Drive.  This saved the day.  My feet felt like cinder blocks.  I honestly could not have taken another step that day.  We were staying at Big Cedar Cabins and the owner, Sandy, picked us up on the Talimena Drive.  She is normally not a shuttle, but when I called she told us she needed some Bingo money and she could pick us up.

This slackpacking trip was a first for Tama and Brandon.  Rhonda finished her section hike recently and Bill will have two more sections after this to finish his section hike.  We all feel fortunate that we had another amazing hike.

Photo: Trail Spur that saved the day back in 2021. This photo was taken on this hike.  I am sure I have a photo of me back in 2021 as well.

Some call the Oklahoma section of the OT - Rocklahoma

Random find - Was someone planning to make Stone Soup?

Slackpacking involves amazing drives to the trailheads.

Tama's cookies were the perfect snack for hungry hikers.

Tiny Hiney rock

Happy when Bill pulled these pick-me-ups from his pocket and shared.

Not for the faint at heart or the tender footed

Almost a heart...

Assuming this was important information about a controlled burn?

The logging trucks make me nervous.
