APPALACHIAN TRAIL - GA - SLACKPACKING - DAY 5

This day was by far our hardest hike, covering 10 miles from Woody Gap to Neel’s Gap. The morning involved some ups and downs, but nothing we couldn’t handle. Reaching Blood Mountain, we faced the toughest two miles of downhill we’ve ever encountered. Despite the challenge, we made it and celebrated with BBQ in Dahlonega. We’ve been averaging about 1.5 mph on the AT, which feels comparable to the Ouachita Trail back home where we easily hike 2 mph, though the ascents and descents here are longer, with similar rocky terrain.

We had a roundabout on our route to stage cars. This princess is buried in the middle of the roundabout.

Thank you baby Jesus - we made it.
